Variable Frequency Drive
A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is a device used to control the speed and torque of an electric motor by adjusting the frequency and voltage of the electricity supplied to it. In HVAC systems, VFDs are commonly used to optimize energy efficiency by allowing fans, pumps, and compressors to run at variable speeds rather than a fixed speed, matching the system’s output to the actual demand. This not only reduces energy consumption but also helps in prolonging equipment life by minimizing wear and tear.
