Ton
A unit of measurement for cooling capacity in HVAC systems. It originates from the amount of heat required to melt one ton (2,000 pounds) of ice over a 24-hour period. One ton of cooling capacity equals 12,000 British Thermal Units (BTUs) per hour, which is a standardized way of describing the amount of heat an air conditioning system can remove from a space in an hour.
