Coil
A coil in HVAC refers to a heat exchanger device used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. It is responsible for either heating or cooling the air within the system. Coils can be located in an air handling unit, ductwork, or integrated into equipment like condensers and evaporators. There are two main types of coils in HVAC systems: evaporator coils and condenser coils.
- An evaporator coil is located indoors and is involved in the cooling process. It allows refrigerant to absorb heat from the indoor air being blown across it, effectively cooling the air.
- A condenser coil, on the other hand, is found outdoors and releases the heat absorbed from inside the building into the outside environment.
