Compressor

« Back to Glossary Index

Often referred to as the “heart” of an air conditioning or heat pump system because it plays a critical role in the refrigeration cycle. Located in the outdoor unit, the compressor’s primary function is to pressurize the refrigerant, which raises its temperature and prepares it to release the heat it has absorbed from inside your home. By pumping the refrigerant through the system’s coils, the compressor enables the heat transfer process necessary for cooling (or heating, in the case of a heat pump). This component works continuously to maintain the desired indoor temperature and ensures the refrigerant moves efficiently through the closed-loop system.
