Condensing Unit

The condensing unit is the outdoor component of a split HVAC system, commonly found in air conditioners and heat pumps. It plays a crucial role in the system’s cooling or heating process by housing essential components such as the compressor, condenser coil, outdoor fan, and other refrigerant-related parts. These components work together to manage the flow and transformation of refrigerant, which allows the system to transfer heat efficiently.

During cooling, the condensing unit’s compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, turning it into a high-temperature, high-pressure gas. This gas flows through the condenser coil, where the outdoor fan blows air over the coil to release heat into the outside environment. The refrigerant then cools down and changes into a liquid, which travels back indoors to the evaporator coil to absorb heat from your home. In a heat pump system operating in heating mode, the process reverses – the condensing unit collects heat from the outdoor air and sends it inside to warm your home.

The performance of the condensing unit is vital for overall system efficiency, and regular maintenance, such as cleaning the coil and ensuring proper functionality of the fan and compressor, helps prevent breakdowns and ensures the system runs smoothly.

2025 UPDATE: I needed Jonathan service on Friday, April 3rd. I called his office at 6:40. Jonathan arrived at my home by 2 o’clock that afternoon. I had paradise come out to get me started with their paradise maintenance package, and had them take a look at my attic because we had concerns with our insulation not being adequate. They didn’t try to over sell work I didn’t need, and were honest with what exactly was needed to get us back on track. Techs Jonathan and Matthew came out for the initial inspection and service and came back to do the attic insulation. They were patient and knowledgeable (I ask a lot of questions) and took their time. They found all the places that my system was leaking (out and in) air, fixed them, and then filled the attic. They kept the house clean and were respectful and had great attitudes the entire time. They have definitely earned my business, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for HVAC work.
