The condensing unit is the outdoor component of a split HVAC system, commonly found in air conditioners and heat pumps. It plays a crucial role in the system’s cooling or heating process by housing essential components such as the compressor, condenser coil, outdoor fan, and other refrigerant-related parts. These components work together to manage the flow and transformation of refrigerant, which allows the system to transfer heat efficiently.

During cooling, the condensing unit’s compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, turning it into a high-temperature, high-pressure gas. This gas flows through the condenser coil, where the outdoor fan blows air over the coil to release heat into the outside environment. The refrigerant then cools down and changes into a liquid, which travels back indoors to the evaporator coil to absorb heat from your home. In a heat pump system operating in heating mode, the process reverses – the condensing unit collects heat from the outdoor air and sends it inside to warm your home.

The performance of the condensing unit is vital for overall system efficiency, and regular maintenance, such as cleaning the coil and ensuring proper functionality of the fan and compressor, helps prevent breakdowns and ensures the system runs smoothly.

We've been doing a complete renovation of our family home of 30 years to sell and retire. We also needed to make sure we had adequate insulation and have the ductwork inspected. I called Paradise Heating and Air, and found that this was a service they could provide. They were very responsive. I had an estimate within a few days and the job completed the following week. They fixed anything that could become a problem and blew in the amount of insulation to meet the current Hoover building code. Jonathan was so friendly, explained everything that was done and the cost was very reasonable. In fact he talked me out of insulating an area that wasn't really needed!!! 2025 UPDATE: I needed Jonathan service on Friday, April 3rd. I called his office at 6:40. Jonathan arrived at my home by 2 o’clock that afternoon. My unit for upstairs had a major leak in the evaporation coils. Jonathan and Matthew came over and spent an hour here investigating and giving me my options. I decided to replace the whole unit and they were here on a Saturday replacing the unit. The knowledge that Jonathan possessed was second to none. From the very cordial and helpful Paradise employee who answered our after-hours, weekend phone call to the technical service provided by Jonathan and Matthew on Monday - we couldn’t be more pleased. We were informed every step of the way via text of all pertinent information including: scheduled appointment time, tech arrival time with the id’s of technicians who would be performing the work. I was extremely impressed with Paradise Air and am very glad I found them. I have a very old HVAC system they needed some ducts and a condensate pump replaced. They were extremely thorough and clearly explained everything they planned on doing. The price was excellent given how much work they had to do in the crawlspace and the extra time they spent with me advising me on how to get as much out of my old system as I could. They weren’t there to try to sell me a new system. They were there to repair what I asked them to at a reasonable price and help me extend the life of my current system. I won’t even think of calling anyone else from now on.
